Usually I get my hair cut short on the sides and back, and longer on top. It's just a basic guy's hair cut. Well, yesterday I went to get a trim. The girl cut it nice and short on the sides and longer on top, but the hair in back is at least a couple inches longer than the rest. I didn't even realize this until a couple hours later while I was messing with my hair. So yeah, now I have a mullet.

Has anything like this happened to any of you?

My first serious girlfriend became a cosmetologist and was in training while we were dating...so yeah, I had more than my fair share of messed up cuts!

my mom always cut my hair(she was hairstylist). She had nipped my ear few times.

I always thought that hairstylists should give you the same deal as instant oil change places -- one free "top off".

The person cutting my hair always seems fine with taking an extra inch off top or whatever. I just didn't notice that this particular girl didn't cut the hair in back, and it doesn't look bad, so whatever. Comparing hairstylists to instant oil change places isn't too bad of an analogy, except that hairstylists can't do any real, major harm.

yup...and I once got a perm that had one inch sections of my hair falling out. (no, I didn't take pictures)

Yes, and thank goodness for mail-in election ballots to save me from embarassment at the polls.

The secret to a perfect haircut is in using the right size bowl.

I used to go to a hairstylist whose eyesight was slowly going. No mishaps though. Although I always left there with a different "style."

I have been to the same stylist for 20 years, so hasn't happened to me. Sometimes she seems moody in the afternoon though. Better to get an early day appt. One barber cut off my son's cowlick & just said, 'sorry.'

I haven't been to a hairstylist/salon in years. I cut my own. I used to keep it no longer than shoulder-length, but am now leeting it go longer (it's mid--back now). I use a method called Feye's self-trimming, and also S&D (Search & Destroy). S&D is when you examine the ends and just clip any split-ends you find.

Usually the complaints I hear about salons/hair stylists, is overcutting, the hair winds up shorter than the customer wants. Could you go back and explain your dilemna to the owner, and see if they can fix it for you?

I had an older sister who was in her teens, when I was a kid. She had friends going to cosmetology schools or working as shampoo girls and learning the basics. I was often a lab rat for them. Saved my mom money, the girls loved trying out new styles. I'm sure many mistakes were made by these amatuer girls. Then a family friend's daughter went to cosmotology school at 14, so she became my hairdresser. I went to her for many years, until I moved to MD 17 yo.

A caveman did not worry about this..so no discussion in FWF
my mom was the worst, long haired hippie I was
I still don't give a fizzle cause I see nobody I want to
I just don't care how bald I'm getting or how grey I'm getting.
so much else going on!!!

ETA...not that I can't afford it
but every three weeks is just too anal for me.

unless you kiss the customers ass directly of coarse.

Do you guys talk to your stylist when they are doing your hair? I tend to be very quiet so they can concentrate.

the last guy to cut my hair got really nervous because I was so quiet. He finally asked me why I wasn't commenting on the haircut in progress. I had to explain I couldn't see it without my glasses & he got a chuckle out of that.

Same here. I try to keep conversation to an absolute minimum during the haircut and let him concentrate. Too much is at stake.

Yes. It seems like it happens pretty often, but that's cause I'm particular. My biggest problem is I've had hairs that weren't cut, and then I've needed to cut them myself.

yes, and what did i do? well. i cried. then, i had to go to someone else and try to get it fixed. i had really long hair and went in to have it cut into a bob, but she actually layered it in about 1 inch layers. i was practically scalped. (i take my glasses off when i get my hair cut and i couldn't see what a hack she was until it was too late.) that was quite a few years ago when i first moved back to this area and didn't know anyone.

it seemed like every time i would find someone who cuts my hair the way i liked it, she would leave and i would have to find someone new. i have been pretty fortunate lately, though.

i don't think i'd cry now though. i would, however, probably cause a scene.

Haven't been to a barber in about 6 years. Bought a Wahl clipper for the price of one cut, do it myself. If I make a mistake, which is near impossible, can only blame myself.
