Anybody watching it? One of my best friends is a zombieholic, so I watch my fair share of zombie stuff. I enjoy the genre, sort of. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for guts and brains and skulls split open and headshots.
Anymoo, I REALLY enjoyed the premier, which is available on HULU. The second episode is out and being replayed late most nights on AMC. It's on Sunday nights, I think. I thought the acting and the story were great. The protagonist enters in a somewhat 28 days later kind of way, and the side characters are compelling. I know that premiers are the hook, and the second episode won't be as flashy or as compelling, but even with that in mind episode 2 was good, too.
On the gore, there's enough to place it firmly in zombie world, but not enough so you're unsure if they are trying to be funny with it. Perfect. I'm a big fan.

LOOOOVVVVEEEEEEEEEEE it.
I've watched the first 2 episodes, but was hooked after the first 15 minutes. Beginning reminded me slightly of 28 days later, too! (I was typing that already when I noticed you mentioned it!!) (love BOTH 28 days and 28 weeks later)
I truly think this is my new favorite show. Gore, romance, Gore, teamwork, Gore, zombies, Gore, comedy.
I was telling a friend how I thought it might be hard to keep a series going with a "zombie" plot line... but they told me the comic has like nearly a hundred editions... so... YAY!!

Edit: Only 78 comic issues...
This site tells probably more of the plot than you want to know... but, it's pretty interesting.

I think the romance twists is what will get Mrs. KKH to watch it with me. I should also mention that this show is loaded with cool guns. Of note I noticed a SW "Ladysmith". Actually it might have been a 2313 NLS (NON lady smith) which doesn't have the embarrassing (for men at least) cursive word "Ladysmith" rolled onto it. This 9mm is perhaps the most comfortable gun I have ever held and fired. Wish I had one.

I have really been enjoying it too. AMC is really impressing me with their original series, wish they would go HD. Back to the Walking Dead, I think the cop's wife is gonna have some serious 'spainin to do pretty soon!

(she moves fast...) Yeah, how fast, I wonder? I'm not sure we're told how long the protagonist was in a coma. I guess it could be years since the opening sequence didn't feature zombies. Hmm, awkward questions await when I re-watch this with Mrs. KKH.

I was assuming a few days, at most. It couldn't have been much longer... as it's 3-3-3 (3 minutes without air, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food). If all the hospital personnel were gone... no one would have been there to refresh his I.V. solution... therefore meaning that if if it was more than 3 days... he would have died of dehydration.
Sorry if my over-analyzing ruined it.

You sound like my hubby. LOL I'm always telling him that movies are not real life, it's not supposed to be accurate. That's why I refuse to watch war movies with him anymore. He'll just spend the entire time during the movie commenting on how an explosion wasn't real and could never happen that way, the guy's uniform doesn't meet regulation, etc.

Oh... I'm not usually like that. I can suspend disbelief very easily (I love Harry Potter and LOTR... and none of that stuff could really happen).
I was just trying to figure it out in my head... because the series gives you no idea how long he's been in that hospital bed unconscious.

Yeah, he doesn't do that during sci-fi movies and stuff, just things that sort of resemble real life - military stuff mostly.

Just curious, but why do zombies move faster than living people?

They usually don't. In Shaun of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Return of the Living Dead... even in this series... they move slower than the living... as though they're disoriented.
(edit... cause I can't speel when I'm sleeeppy)

Sorry if my over-analyzing ruined it. Work with me J.R. Let's say the opening sequence was in 2007. Protagonist is in a coma until summer of 2010. Zombiepockalips occurs and he is without food and water for maybe a few days and coincidentally happens to awake.

But... at the very beginning there are already zombies. He kills that little girl zombie before he gets shot and goes to the hospital. (when he goes looking for gas)
(look at me... pyeeing all my posts...)
Okay... maybe the opening before the credits is a flash forward.
Hmmm...
aww... hell... now I have no idea.
Still... between when the people fled the hospital and his waking up, it could only have been less than a week... so, his wife moved on when she didn't know if he was dead? Still say she moves fast...

Notice how he is slumming for gas in a giant campsite of cars, and is not surprised by this. No doubt we'll revisit that scene soon in real time. Point being, don't condemn hot ex-wife for re-hooking up since we don't know how much time has passed. I also charitably assume they went through what passes for a God-pleasing post-apocalyptic marriage ceremony, too.

Could have been 10 years, although he moves pretty good for a guy in a 10 year coma. I bet it comes out to be 3 years, then zombies, then hook up with the ex-partner.

The wife was already cheating with his partnter/friend, before the fall. Remember near the beginning of the first show? He and his partner are shooting radar and eating french fries. He's complaining to his partner about his marriage, about how his wife's always mad at him. His partner says something like "we all go through it, man" (when he knows he's hittin' that). He's a weasel and she's scandalous, BUT, she still wears her wedding ring on a chain. This means that she still loves her husband and we'll probably find out that the partner/friend influenced her to split town and leave hubby in the hospital, maybe he even lied to her. I see bad things for him upcoming.
PS> AMC is in HD here (Comcast), AMCHD is channel 831.

We caught up this weekend, watched episode 1 Saturday afternoon, then episodes 2 and 3 last night. It was excellent. Wife couldn't handle it, so just the kids and I.
Not sure if Ray's partner was with the wife beforehand, he was visiting Ray in the hospital and Laurie mentioned he told her Ray was dead, looked like it was to save her grief. Michael Rooker played the bigot really well, kinda wished the walkers had gotten through and eaten him, but with him walking around without his hand, that can add to the story.
Bummed that there's only 3 more episodes this season. Hope the quality stays this high.
Daughter asked for a nightlight last night, but dropped what she was doing at 9pm to make sure she didn't miss it.
eta: The scene where they hacked up the walker's body with a fire ax to coat themselves with walker guts was kinda hard to watch.
