When purchasing a tall coffee at my local Starbucks today, I was offered a discount on the 3-pack VIA instant brew packets (displayed at register/counter). The person at the counter said it would only cost me $0.04, but after I looked at my bill, it came to $0.20, which is still a much better deal than having to pay $2.95 for it.
They said it was a promo good for the next 3 weeks, and you must ask about it before checking out.
Closer examination of my receipt shows a $1 OFF discount applied to the $2.95 3-pack, and free TALL coffee promo applied ($1.75), so grand total came to $1.95.
Note: This may be a reincarnation of the "taste challenge" offer that expired Oct 5th. You got a $1 off coupon on a VIA purchase and a free TALL drip coffee on your next visit. See here.

it's not some freeze-dried stuff either. look closely, and you'll find that it's actually ground coffee. they ground it so fine, it's practically a powder. perfect for travel. i was the unofficial mascot for via, when i asked stewardess for hot water. at first she was suspicious, what are you going to do with that hot water. after i sprang out the via, she and some of my seatmates suckered me into giving them some. it was fun-not as fun as being part of some mile-high club, i'm sure.
they gave me a free 're-fill' (brought my own mug) tore off coupon good for a free tall, next visit.
