I'm hearing that the wii version of rockband will be more akin to the dumbed down version that they released for ps2 (no online play or downloadable content) not stating this as fact just the buzz I'm getting ( makes sense, since the horsepower of the two systems is around the same) and are you going to need to have a controller for each instrument? I think it's going to be one of those type situations where there promising to release "soon" and it drags out for a year or more.

I happened across a sweet deal on a 360 elite on craigslist with all the rockband instruments and two other crap games for 300 bones I figured at that price point I am only paying half retail so why not, just traded in my wii guitar hero 3 and Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess for a reserve on the new Super Smash Brothers and guitar hero 2 for xbox(for the current songs and to get the extra guitar for rockband)

For those locked into the Wii This is a hell of a deal, Normally I would have had to work the wife for 6 months to a year before she would have gotten another game system for us (the adults) when we already had a game system in the wii that was family friendly, but she wanted rockband as much as I did when we played, our band name is "the underoo's" and we'll get ranked as soon as my wife can step it up to medium lol

Thanks! I didn't get to report back until now, but I was in Orange county this afternoon when I heard about this deal and went to the Anaheim Hills TRU and unfortunately someone got there about 2 seconds before I did and got the last one. I had them call the Fullerton one and they had no problem putting one on hold for me. When I got to Fullerton they had at least 30 piled up in the middle of the electronics section. I'm sure they'll have more left over tomorrow if anyone is interested. They also said that the sale is going on until the 16th.

Thanks again OP!

This really is a great deal!
I have wanted a 2nd Guitar for my Wii, but since they still don't sell stand-alone Guitars for the Wii yet, and not to mention the fact that they will be $59.99 !!! #$%!@#$!# when they are released in a few weeks, I bought one of these today as well.

To make this deal even sweeter, I still had my $25 gift card from the TRU Mario Galaxy purchase, so I ended up just spending right at about $50 w/tax for my 2nd Guitar.

Since this was bought only for the 2nd Guitar, I will be able to keep rocking while the morons at Activision (who apparently can't due QA worth a damn) swap out my 1st copy for the correct one when it is finally completed.

Game exchange info here:
http://www.activisiongameexchange.com/

Even better is once I have em swapped out for the stereo version, I can get a little extra cash out of the 2nd copy on flebay.

Depends on how inaccurate your definition of "around the same" is. The Wii is at least an order of magnitude more powerful than the PS2.

check out the PC version open source application HERE
very cool app which supports ps2 (with usb adapter) and 360 guitars (usb already so plug and play) or a keyboard which is still fun for a free application

lots of downloadable songs for it including all the GH I-III tracks and others. Theres also the ability to make your own tracks

theres a mod to the application that adds in themes and head to head play. Seems to be moving towards a rock band application with more instrument adds...

Please post which system you would equate the wii to in terms of horsepower? I'm not dissing the wii, I own and love one, just trying to put things into perspective, here's an article that the wii is less powerful, if your going to sbe snarky back it up with some facts.

from your own source--

"Almost all the shader effects on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 can be reproduced on the Wii by re-implementing them with the fixed function hardware of the Wii's GPU. Most games just port the effect over. A few teams have gone as far as making a shader-to-Wii conversion tool. It reads the shader code and generates the fixed function code necessary to achieve the same result. Keep in mind that the Wii's GPU is not as fast or feature rich as the Xbox 360 or PS3, but that doesn't mean you can't get very close results."

Technically, he could have added a YMMV in there and possibly a store location which would include a state abbreviation which looks similar to an acronym.

I had no issue PMing to bestbuy, got to use my rewards zone card for another 1% off - and didn't have to drive as far!
Good for my 2nd guitar, since it looks like they are taking their sweet time with the stand alone ones!

Which guitar works best with Xbox360 of Rockband?

Don't do it .... if ya have 5 channel surround sound it only comes out the center speaker....

I took mine back the manager at Best Buy knew the problem and I was so happy the kids trashed the guiter in the first week. they still refunded the cash...

FYI, there has been lots of info about that issue. I would be shocked if any manager of any electronics store didn't know about the problem. The game only has mono sound for wii. They're replacing the mono disks for free. They send you an envelope, you drop your mono disk in it, and they send back a stereo disk. You register for the replacement program here.

Thanks OP! My NJ store (Woodbridge) was OOS, hopped next door to BB, and they were OOS, too.

Cruised over to NB (New Brunswick) BB and they gladly did the PM for 2! At least 6 more in stock at that BB, priced regularly at $89.

How can you tell if your copy of the game is the old mono version? I currently don't have surround sound, but might be getting a system soon. Just want to be sure I can play the game at full quality if I ever do.

Wow my local TRU (National City, CA [San Diego County]) had TONS of them... I mean the top shelf behind the video game cashier was stacked with them.

same for me.. I walked in and walked out with 15. Manager forced me to open a cc as I wanted more than their limit / person
