Title suggestions (vote green for best title):

I see wisdom is returning to FWF. |
I agree with op, newbs don't read, but caps catch their eye (which also explains WHY THEY HAVE TO YELL THE ENTIRE POST, USUALLY INVOLVING A MOTHER TALKING ABOUT THEIR SON, AND HOW SHE WANTS TO MEDDLE IN THE POOR SOD'S LIFE, WITH POOR, USE, OF, PUNCTUATION, AND US HAVING TO TAKE HER OUT BACK AND BEAT HER BECAUSE HE NEEDS TO LEARN TO COME TO FWF ON HIS OWN VOLITION, etc etc etc) edit: And before anyone reds me, I'd just like to say in the entire time I've been coming here, the above described post (which I shall not look up and link) is the only post ever thats made me want to beat someone with a crowbar, and I'm rather desensitized to stupidity via Something Awful, 4chan, and Fark's Florida tag. |
Allow my voice of dissent: Hoping to get all stupid questions into one thread is pointless. It's just not true to say that all questions are not welcome except in that thread. It's that that's the only place stupid questions are welcome. But the people asking stupid questions don't know they're stupid. |
I agree with OP. And it should be at the top of the stickies. |
The newbie thread quick summary should also link to the FW FAQ, which summarizes common questions and how to search... |
currently: The Finance Forum Questions Thread, 2008 edition: flame-free zone to ask your finance questions.-Newbies too! it's just a little too long, what about: FLAME FREE ZONE - newbies ask your finance questions here or, to borrow from LH2004's post: FLAME FREE ZONE - stupid newbie questions welcomed |
How about a simple: |

no one thinks THEIR question is stupid, I don't think stupid/beginner etc is a good idea |
verruckterBaum said:no one thinks THEIR question is stupid, I don't think stupid/beginner etc is a good idea True, but look at statistics: Would you have guessed that all the "... for dummies" books would have sold like hotcakes? The point is, we need a catchy title that will prevent all the redundant newbie threads. And btw, I doubt that your average newbie will understand what a "flame free zone" is. |
add suggestions or green the ones you want to vote for? Mine goes to FWF for dummies |
Newbies aren't likely to know what "FWF" stands for. I like OP's title the best. |
Whoever made that suggestion is obviously an idiot. Also, (us) noobs don't know what FWF or a FLAME FREE ZONE is. |
I recommend: NEWBIE THREAD: Ask your questions here! (flame-free) And I like the idea of putting it very very first. |

ThursdaysChild said:markkundinger said:I recommend: 1. I don't believe the thread should be a susbstitute for reading the FAQ, and/or at least trying to search for an answer before posting. (Although I'd prefer adding an unnecessary post to a thread than starting a brand new thread, which happens all too often, particularly with newbies.) 2. I can't speak for others, but I consider the flame-free thread a place for asking a question that I couldn't find an answer to in other threads, or searching on-line, or if I found an answer, a place where I could get help understanding that answer -- without being possibly flamed for asking a stupid question. It's nice not to have to worry about that issue. This is similar to what ThursdaysChild said above. I'd like a title close to what I see now as the title, perhaps: SEARCHED, BUT CAN'T FIND? Flame-free zone to ask your finance questions. Newbies are welcome, too! I don't think we need the 2008 edition stuff. I agree that the flame-free thread should be the first stickied thread. |

When I found FWF I read the FAQs and a lot of threads before I ever considered posting. Of course, when I was a lad, we had to walk several miles to school each day. It snowed |
I suggest put "Q&A" as the first word. |
