This has NOT been my experience with CITI. When I have obtained a new card from them, I've simply enrolled it online under the same user-id and password of my old accounts. I have made initial payments of several thousand on new cards without any difficulty.........

When you enrolled the new card online, was the old card also active under that same user-id and password? If so, I assume there was some way to select which card you were paying the bill for?

If the new card is a conversion from an old account, then the bank information carries over.

Since the poster said he qualified for some special intro rate, I assumed it was a new account. With new accounts, you need to go through this verification process before they'll accept large payments.

When I saw this offer I tried to convert my Diamond card, Figured since that card had the security issue and I was waiting for a new card it was good time to try it. Was a no go. My Diamond card is less than a year old so no big deal losing the age and I plan on calling today to close it and move the the $62.5K to my Cashreturn card. I was told that can be done. Laid in bed last making a list of all the things I need to buy while I have the 5%. figure I will also tell my wife to do Holiday shopping early plus buy some gift cards for stores I know I use a lot thru out the year. I plan on taking CITI for many thousands on this deal.

The website still show 5% for this card. Anyone has any idea?

As another reply suggested, you just need to find the right person to verify or be persistent enough. I called today and the CSR initially said just 1% but when I told her the online signup promotional said something else, she dug a little bit and was able to verify the extra 4%. Mucho green to OP. Got a daughter's wedding to pay for and a new roof.

My husband will be thrilled to not carry 3 different cards for the next 3 months... of course then he'll have to relearn it all after the promo.

Same for my wife, She has used the wrong card a couple times and her excuse is they both have the same color back. I politely suggested she start looking at the front. I do think I am starting to drive her crazy by switching cards and which card to use where and when because I like to stop charging on a card a few days before statement date so I can PIF and show a 0 balance

that's taking it too far. it's such a hassle to worry about which card to use, etc. some people prefer to relax and just enjoy life and not worry about money every single moment.

I bet it would be hard to run $100k a month via this card unless Citi would issue you a ridiculous credit line. Citi more than likely will refuse to allow people to move credit lines over to this card durning the promo period as this card also has a 0% BT promo offer. This is just my guess but I could be totally wrong.

Can now confirm they will allow you to move CL's to this card. I just called and was able to close my Diamond Preferred and move the whole $60,500 to My Cashreturns card, As usual it showed as done online by the time I got off the phone, gotta love the speed of CITI. Now have $70,500 on this card and it is my only CITI card so I am ready for their next great offer. Now I really need to figure out a way to pull some big money out of this card, Any suggestions?

I am the most relaxed person, Do you find it a hassle putting the right shoe on each foot? Using the right card is no more difficult. Why should you ever leave the easy money on the table?

Ok need some help here as I really don't understand this stuff. Below is from T&C. Looks like I can get the 5% on cash advances an BT's. I have $70,500 line with $13k available for cash advances. Also I have another card that still has about $65k owed on it. So I figure between cash advance and BT I could still make about $1,400 profit after paying the 3% fee. Am I missing anything?

Citi CashReturns Card Terms and Conditions.

Your Citi CashReturns Card account (“Card Account”) will receive a rebate based upon
eligible transactions appearing on your current month’s billing statement. The only eligible transactions are purchases, cash advances and balance transfers. The transaction fee for cash advances is 3.0% of each cash advance, minimum $5. The transaction fee for balance transfers is 3.0% of the amount of each balance transfer, $5 minimum.

Just noticed the following and am confused. Is that an extra $5, Or is that instead of the 5%? Hope someone can answer before I screw up and transfer $65k to this card for the 5% rewards. One other thing, If I BT to this card does that mean I should not use for purchases anymore? If that's the case I would wait till just before the end of 3 month Promo

Reward Program Information
Citi CashReturnsSM MasterCard®
Unless you are participating in a limited-time promotional offer, you will earn 1% on all purchases. You will earn 1% on cash advances and cash convenience check amounts billed at the standard cash advance rate. You will receive five CitiDollars for each individual balance transfer transaction of $1,500 or more.

alert mods

you get $5 for each balance transfer in lieu of any % CashBack.

so pay 3% to get $5.. do a BT for $166.07 and break even. do a BT any higher and lose a ton of $$

It really stinks that most card issuers have gone from no fee BT to BT capped at $75, now to BT with no cap.

well, apparently your wife finds it a hassle. and jennatx's husband.
and actually, i don't find it that much of a hassle to put right on right, but putting on shoes and having to tie shoe laces is a hassle. i prefer slip-ons. and the slip-on sandals don't have a right or a left.

Are you sure about this? The other part of the T&C seems to say BT are eligible, Seems they do like to make it confusing

If you think it's worth it after considering service charge and time value of money, you can always make estimated tax payments within the 3-month promo period.

Edit to remove reference to property taxes.

Thanks to SiS who told me about officialpayments.com, Because I don't want to get hit with a huge tax bill plus penalties due to my 1099-INT, I am having a little over $500 extra a week taken out of my paycheck, I do this instead of quarterly estimate payments. I will now talk with my account and try and get a picture of my tax liabilities for this year. Will then make a large estimated payment, officialpayments.com has a 2.5% fee but that still leaves a net gain of 2.5% . Plus I will then stop having that extra $500 a week taken out. So for anybody who makes estimated payments this could be a good deal

LustfortheMoment said:Is the 5% really worth it for 3 months??? Not for me. I already get 5% on groceries, drugstores and fuel with my AMEX Blue Cash and 1.5% on everything else. The extra 3.5% on non-EDP which I'd get for 3 months on this Citi card wouldn't even pay my phone bill.....

You know, just when I think I've seen the BOTTOM OF THE BARREL in terms of how stupid your posts can get, you go an surprise us.

Some of us MIGHT do our Xmas shopping early, or buy plane tix early, etc. with this card. Those purchases are usually NOT covered for 5% CB on other cards.

But that would deprive her of her ability to earn money.

Anybody know how the 3 mos is measured? Is it from date of app or issuance? 90 days or 3 billing cycles? I'm trying to figure out when is the earliest I could apply and still have the 5% through Black Friday at the earliest...

I'm sorry, brent. Perhaps you should reread my post:

"Is the 5% really worth it for 3 months??? Not for me......The extra 3.5% on non-EDP which I'd get for 3 months on this Citi card wouldn't even pay my phone bill"

I wasn't speaking for you or anyone else. If you anticipate significant non-EDP expenses for a 3 month period, then this card certainly makes a lot of sense...........

I'd wait another week to apply if you want to be sure to have BF included.

You are absolutely correct, Everybody needs to look at their own need and decide if this card is right for them. So why did you bother to chime in with:

For me the card has been a goldmine, So far $10k on College bill ($500) $2900 on winter tire package ($145), $2,200 on new exhaust for my car ($110) $1900 on new Laptop ($95) and plan on making an estimate tax payment today to officialpayments.com for at least $10k, After 2.5% fee will clear $250, So that's about $1,100 so far and have only had card for 3 days, these were purchases that would have been made anyways
