Amazon brags two lightning deals in Gold Box for Xbox 360 Arcade. Both for 199 with $100 Amazon promotion code.

My friend and I ordered 2 through Gold Box in between 3:00PM - 3:01PM EST. But none of them came with the mysterious "Lightning Deal: -$0.01" in the email. I called the customer service and after a few minutes waiting, one guy told me the service center was bombarded by angry customers.

It was a trap.

Not really, but it was poorly done by Amaz0n.

You could have it in your cart and quickly check out and in between getting it IN the cart (with the $0.01 off which means you get the $100 back) and checking out you lost the $0.01 which means you lost the $100 refund.

If they let you get it in your cart, it should be yours until you have had time to check out. They made the race NOT at the point of getting it in the cart but at the point of final check out. By doing it that way, there will be a lot of folks (like you) that just purchased a system that will never get the $100 back and wonder why...

If there is one thing about Amazon.com that i know its that they always do the right thing.

My question is, how many units did they really have available for the discount? 100? 1,000? My guess would be closer to 100. They tried to match Wal-marts deal, but how many Wal-marts sold out of the Xbox Arcade today? My guess is almost none. None of the Wal-marts in my are sold out, I just called to check.

If you keep thinking that and think you are going to get the Lightning Deal $100 gift card, you are wrong. The rules about the way the Lightning Deal process works is clearly stated. That includes those who thought they could have the item already in the cart ahead of time. I see why they use the word "lightning". It strikes and is over in the blink of an eye.

I think the concept of a deal that's over that quickly is bound to do more to anger Amazon customers in the long run. How about something more reasonable like "Minute Deals".
