I bought a 42" LCD from best buy 2 years ago and I made sure to buy the 4 year protection plan. Earlier this year my TV died so I called BB to send a tech. BB sent a tech to my house from a 3rd party TV repair company. After a few weeks of them trying to find the part needed the company was unable to locate the part. The 3rd party company told me that my TV was as good as a paperweight and that I did not need it anymore. BB junked out my TV and told me that I could go into the store for credit on my old TV. I was getting ready to move at the time and since the tech told me I did not need the TV I got rid of it while moving. I have tried to buy a new TV at BB but they refuse to give me credit without the old TV. I have tried going through BB corporate but they have not been much help. So I basically paid for a 4 year warranty and now have nothing to show for it and no TV. Where do I go from here to get this resolved? Help!

The key issue as I see it is that you disposed of the failed set before settling with BB. Even if the tech said it was toast, then the ball falls into BB's court.

You could try a BBB claim, being sure to have documentation that the set was diagnosed as not repairable.

Off hand, your disposal of the set is costing you $500 for a new set.

That was not a very smart thing to do. You are pretty much out of luck unless someone at best buy is very very nice to you.

I had 2 TV's that BB junked out earlier this year, I was told I had to take them back to the store with a junkout file # (per the Geek Squad teck), you should have called BB 1st before you threw it away. Best of luck but like the above poster said you might be out of luck.

So the warranty I paid for is worthless? There is no accountability for their best buy authorized techs?

Do you have something in writing from the tech stating it was OK to get rid of it? If not, you are probably out of luck unless you can track down the tech and he admits he told you that you didn't have to keep it in order to settle your claim.

Sounds like my only option is the BBB. I was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction, this sucks.
